How To Travel Sustainably.

It’s important to think sustainable when you consider your travel options, whether it be to your place of exercise or work.

The main way to travel more sustainably is through the use of active travel. Active travel is where you swap methods of travel that use vehicles for transport, and use an active method instead such as:

  • Walking
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Scooting
  • E-biking

There are many benefits of Active Travel including:

  • Reducing the amount of greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide) emitted. This will help to improve air quality and tackle climate change.
  • Active travel can contribute to the recommended amount of physical activity for each week, which currently stands at 150 minutes or 2hrs 30mins.
  • Cycling in particular can help to reduce congestion on the roads and can help to support local businesses and the economy.

As a result of the UK Lockdown, there was an increase in the amount of people using active travel methods, particularly cycling. The UK government hopes that this will continue after the end of lockdown and help them reach their targets to increase the amount of people walking and cycling by 2025.
